Naledge from Kidz in the Hall

Before I started my project shooting portraits of people of African descent I shot Mo Akintunde. Here is a photo from our session. He marks the beginning of the project for me. Mo referred me Shala. Shala referred me Lo. I’m shooting Lo on Thursday. Lo will be the first female for my project.

Ducko and I shot at a loading dock in the back of a warehouse. During the shoot we had to surf a hill and drive through a fence before exiting. My Honda Civic was less than happy with me by the end of it.

We were shooting in a location we didn’t have permission. To get to the spot we had to drive down a small grass embankment before arriving at the concrete parking lot located in the rear of the warehouse. Going down did not cause the Civic too much of a problem. When we tried to leave the same way we entered we kept sliding down the hill. After several minutes of trying to get out, which became surfing the hill, we took the opportunity to go out the back gate as security arrived at the front.

We got caught between the two fences going out the back gate. I had to jump out the car and bend the fence pole away from the cars wheel and disconnect a steel wire. The minor delay only took a couple seconds and I had Ducko back for his one o’clock studio appointment.
My Civic is a little disappointed in me right now but I’m happy with my portraits.
Something about this photograph makes me happy.

shala
I shot Shala a few hours ago. I did a really quick edit and stumbled across this image.

Yesterday I shot Lee. We met up at my apartment then headed to Chicago & Ashland for taco’s and horchata. Lee talked to me a lot about Matthew Stone. Lee was particularly interested in the nomadic art shows that Stone held in London. He took me to a spot towards the south side of Chicago at 39th and Damen where he wanted to hold a nomadic installation piece called “The Happening” . The cops quickly stopped us from happening. We continued the photo session back at my apt. I shot some photos on my Mamiya I’m interested to see though I already feel as if the photo session was successful.
